Health Condition

SP Balasubrahmanyam is tested Covid-19 +ve on August 5 and got hospitalized. His health deteriorated last night(13th August 2010). His health condition is critical, has been moved to the ICU.

Family, Education, Early Life

S. P. Balasubrahmanyam was born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name is S. P. Sambamurthy(late), who was a Harikatha artist. His mother is Sakunthalamma. She died on 4 February 2019. He has two brothers and five sisters. One of his sisters S. P. Sailaja is a famous singer.

He joined JNTU College of Engineering Anantapur but discontinued it.

He participated in many competitions and won many awards during his college days. He won his first prize in a music competition for amateur singers which was organized by the Madras-based Telugu Cultural Organisation in 1964.

He was awarded as the best singer in one of the singing competition which was judged by S. P. Kodandapani and Ghantasala.

He has recorded over 40000 songs in 16 Indian languages.

He received six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages; Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi

He has received 25 Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Awards for Telugu cinema.

Received many state awards from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

He received six Filmfare Awards South

He received the Bollywood Filmfare Award.

He was awarded with the state NTR National Award for his contributions to Indian cinema in the year 2012.

He was awarded with the Indian Film Personality of the Year with a Silver Peacock Medal in 2016
