Malhotra was born and raised in a Punjabi family in Delhi. She did her schooling from Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar, New Delhi. She completed her graduation at Gargi College, University of Delhi, New Delhi.
She is famous for her role of Babita Phogat in ‘Dangal’
Her journey in Bollywood began as a model. She featured in many commercials for the top brands.

During the auditions for the popular role of ‘Babita kumari’ in Dangal, she contested with around 10,000 girls to get the lead position, Impressing everyone with her versatile acting skills, she has bagged a number of movies after her path-breaking performance in the movie Dangal. She is a part of Ritesh Batra’s Photograph starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Sanya is confirmed for a dance film which is going to be directed by renowned choreographer, Bosco Martis.
Before signing for the film Dangal, Malhotra doesn’t know about wrestling. She didn’t even see any match before. But later, she watched many wrestling videos, the body language of wrestlers and even learned wrestling.
