Riya Sen is an Indian film actress and model. Riya, who comes from a family of actors which includes her grandmother Suchitra Sen, mother Moon Moon Sen, and sister Raima Sen. She began her acting career in 1991 as a child actress in the film Vishkanya.
She performed in Falguni Pathak’s music video ‘Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi‘ at the age of sixteen in 1998 It was then she got identified as a Model.
Since then, she has appeared in music videos, magazine covers, television commercials, fashion shows. Riya has worked as an activist and appeared in an AIDS awareness. She also helped in raising funds for pediatric eye-care.
Riya is the daughter of Moon Moon Sen, a former actress, and granddaughter of Suchitra Sen, who is a legend in Bengali cinema. Before going to Mumbai, she used to stay in Kolkata with her parents and sister Raima Sen, who is an actress.
Her father Bharat Dev Varma is a member of the famous royal family of Tripura.
Ila Devi is her paternal grandmother who was a princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister Gayatri Devi was the Maharani of Jaipur.
Indira was the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda and she is her paternal great-grandmother.
Dinanath Sen is a relative of former Union Law Minister Ashoke Kumar Sen who was the Diwan or a Minister of the Maharaja of Tripura.
Although their official papers carry the surname Dev Varma, the sisters are being credited on-screen under their mother’s maiden name,
Riya Sen Early Life
Riya did her schooling at Loreto House and Rani Birla Girls College in Kolkata. Later, she did jewelry-designing at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. She designs her clothes which she wears in films and commercials. She learn’t kickboxing. Riya is also trained in Kathak dance.
During the shooting of the film Shaadi No. 1 in France, she met with an accident which made her unconscious.
A 90-second video clip has circulated on the internet, showing Riya and Ashmit Patel were in compromising position in a hotel bedroom. Later the couple split.
She underwent a detoxification period in Bangkok for addiction to chocolate in 2007.
She became a youth icon because of her bold scenes in the movies
