Even after several years when we discuss the Indian constitution the first name we hear is Babasaheb Ambedkar Biography. As everyone knows Ambedkar is the Man behind our Indian Constitution. He successfully included and established the democratic rules and regulations where every person in the nation is treated equally, provided with equal justice, fraternity and liberty.

Ambedkar was from a lower caste where people are treated as untouchables and even recognized as common people. Ambedkar was born in a poor family in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. He was the 14th child and last child of Ramji Sakpal. He’s father Ramji Sakpal worked as a subedar(officer) in the british Indian army.

Ambedkar was from Mahar(Dalit) caste where they are treated as untouchables. The people who are born in Mahar caste were intimated with severe discrimination where they aren’t have permission for education, employment, and they were not allowed into the temples. Also, they have no permission to drink public water and also they are permitted with very less facilities. They used to suffer with health issues as they also not allowed into hospitals.

Maharashtra comprises of 10% of Mahars.

Ambedkar was allowed to a Government school as his father was an officer in the British Indian Army. But, the higher caste people used to treat them very cruelly as they are lower caste people and untouchables. Ambedkar allowed to school but they aren’t allowed into the classroom. Lower caste people used to sit in front of the classroom and listen to the classes. Even they aren’t allowed to drink water. Peon used to pour water in the hands from some height so they cannot touch the glass. If in case peon not comes they won’t drink the water.

Ambedkar later in his writings wrote “No peon, No water.” This is how untouchables are treated in those days. Even though Ambedkar struggled to read all kinds of literature and completed is lower education and moved to complete his higher-level education.   

Caste Discrimination and untouchability had a major impact on Ambedkar’s life. He was haunted and bullied by discrimination wherever he goes. So he decides to make a change in Indian society and in this case he studied regarding several issues.

During his childhood, he’s mother died due to illness and later he has grown under his aunt and at that time they have a severe financial problem. Even though he got admission in Bombay high school after his Primary education. Later he married to Ramabai in 1906. In 1907, he got an admission to enter an affiliated college of the University of Bombay, where he is the first untouchable to gain this pride and also he’s the first person to do higher education from his family.

As an achievement of gaining admission from Bombay University, the Mahar community members arranged a small felicitation to the Ambedkar as he is the first untouchable to do it. But Ambedkar’s father refused for the Felicitation because it may cause pride in his mind which loses his self-ability of gaining more achievements.

Later he finished his under graduation course and received his degree in Economics and Political Science from Bombay University and Then he worked with the government of the princely state of Baroda. Later he made his way to complete his post-graduation where he got a chance at Columbia University in the United States in 1913.

He received M.A in 1916 by presenting a thesis on ancient Indian Commerce. Later he moved to London to complete his study on economics at Gray’s Inn and also at the London School of Economics. In 1921 he became the professional Economist, where he completed his Master’s degree in economics in 1921 and a D.Sc. in economics in 1923.

During his studies in London, he has shown much interest in politics and human rights. In 1918 Sydenham College Of Commerce and economy has appointed Ambedkar as their professor of political economy. Even though he is good at what he is doing but faced discrimination from co-workers and even from some of the students.

Later in 1920, he was invited for the Southborough committee, where the Government of India act 1919 is being got prepared. Babasaheb asked the officials to implement the separate electorate for the untouchables so they can have their own access to living. He asked and argued for the justice of the untouchables.

Ambedkar has been analyzing the discrimination being faced by the untouchables. SO he decided to bring awareness among the Dalits and untouchables. For this he launched a newspaper “MOOKNAYAKA”(leader of the silent). In this newspaper ambedkar used to motivate the Dalits to fight against the caste discrimination and also he said the importance of education. Also, he participated in rally’s to bring awareness among the people. This created a huge euphoria and awareness among the people.

“Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his being in the society in which he lives. Man’s life is independent. He is born not for the development of the society alone, but for the development of his self.”

Indian Constitution

After Independence the new congress came into power and asked the intellectuals to prepare a new constitution for the Indian government then they selected some highly educated people to complete this task.

Then Ambedkar who is famous for speeches and writings became the Chairman for the drafting committee to prepare the new constitution for the Indian Government.

Ambedkar is so much interested to prepare the constitution with his wise decisions and also he is a highly educated person who studied more than 60 countries constitution. So he had a complete knowledge regarding how a government to rule the country. Even the officials of the drafting committee recognized Ambedkar as the right person to prepare constitution.

Ambedkar single-handedly with the help of some few people has prepared the constitution of India which included different types of human rights, articles, and acts. Ambedkar prepared a good constitution where every person in India treated equally. He included reservation seats for lower caste people which helps the untouchables and lower caste people in every genre of education and even in governments jobs. The New constitution is very well written by Ambedkar.

Dr.Ambedkar Death

Ambedkar is a diabetic patient. He died in the year 1954 due to improper medication and poor eyesight.
