Deepika Padukone was born on 5th January 1986. Her height is 1.76m.  One of the highest paid actresses in India. She received several awards including three Film Fare awards. Deepika is one of the 100 most influential personalities  in the world.


Deepika was born in the Copenhagen capital of Denmark. Her father is a former Badminton player. He was ranked as Worlds 1 player in 1980. He was awarded with Arjuna Award and Padma Shri award.  

Born to Konkani speaking parents Deepika’s mother Ujjala is a Travel agent. Her younger sister, Anisha, is a golfer. Her paternal Grandfather, Ramesh,  was the secretary of the Mysore Badminton Association.

The family shifted to Bangalore, India when Padukone was just a year old. She was educated at Bangalore’s Sophia High School and completed her Intermediate education at Mount Carmel College. 

Later she joined at the Indira Gandhi Open University for a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology but later discontinued it because of scheduling conflicts with her modeling career.

Early Life

Initially, Deepika had focused on Badminton, later realized that her interest is not in badminton. With her father’s acceptance, she joined modeling in 2004.  She started a full-time career as a model under the guidance of Prasad Bidapa.

At Early career, she acted for the television commercial Liril Soap and modeled for various brands and products.  In 2005, she made her debut at the Lakme Fashion Week.

She won “Model of the Year” award at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards. Padukone’s fame increased when she appeared in a highly popular print campaign for 2006.

At the age of 21 Deepika shifted to Mumbai and the same year she got the opportunity in Himesh Reshammiya’s Song “Naam hai tera.” She felt herself as inexperienced in acting and joined Anupum Kher acting academy.

She started to get offers. Farah khan noticed Deepika in the “Naam hai Tera” song and decided to cast her for the role in “Happy New Year”.

Acting Career

In 2006 Deepika`s debut film is Aishwarya which is in the Kannada language. This movie was directed by Indrajit lankesh. The movie was a remake of Telugu film Manmadhudu. She played the title role opposite the actor Upendra.

By the end of 2006 instead of Happy New Year Farah khan cast Padukone for “Om Shanti Om movie” opposite to King khan Shahrukh Khan.

For this movie Padukone was awarded with the film fare award and nominated herself in the category of best actress. Padukone received many praises for playing the lead roles in the romance movie Love Aaj Kal (2009) and the drama Lafangey Parindey(2010)

 Deepika`s performances in the romance Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and the comedy Houseful (2010) were met with negative reviews. Lafange parinde opposite to Neil Nitin Mukesh and Break ke Baad opposite to Imraan Khan underperformed at the box office.

In 2011 Deepika performed in a song Dum Maaro Dum which was the remake from the 1971 film.

Deepika was in controversy and a court case was raised for indecency. Then she acted for in the movie “Desi Boys” but the role failed to uplift her career. At this time her movies were not doing good which  led critics to perceive that Padukone had lost her sparkle.

Establishing and Romantic Comedy

Romantic Comedy movie named Cocktail was a significant turning point in the career of Deepika. The film Reace 2008 brought predominantly negative results. .Next film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani opposite to Ranbir Kapoor  emerged as a major commercial success.

Her next appearance in the movie Chennai Express Opposite to Shahrukh Khan received praises for her performance. Padukone next played movie Raam leela opposite Ranveer sigh  received several praises and won the film fare award. In 2014,

Padukone featured opposite Rajinikanth in the Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan, a period drama that was shot using motion capture technology. She was paid ₹30 million(US$420,000) for two days worth of work in it.

Deepika’s appearance in the film Piku as a Bengali architect who cares her father and shows the father and daughter relationship received praises like what she is capable of when given something more to do than look pretty and be the crazy-dance girl at parties” Piku emerged box office hit and made deepika to receive Filmfare award.

In 2018 Most expensive film Padmavat Deepika portrayed Rani Padmavati, a Rajput queen who commits Jauhar. This was the most emotionally exhausting role of her career.

In addition to film awards, Padukone has topped various listings of India’s most attractive people, including The Times of India`s “Most Desirable Woman”, Maxim (India)`s “Hot 100”, FHM (India)`s “World’s Sexiest Woman” and People (India) “Most Beautiful Woman”.

Deepika Padukone Personal Life

Padukone stays at Prabhavathi neighbourhood of Mumbai. She shares close bond and relationship with her family.  She frequently visits Banglore and spend her time with the family members.

Apart from the acting career, she had also written a column for an Indian News paper and she is Vocal about the issues such as Feminism and Depression.

She is the founder of Live Love Laugh Foundation which creates awareness on mental health in India. Padukone Married to her co-star Ranveer Singh
