Amala has appeared in a supporting role as Beena in “Neelathamara” film and this was offered by Lal Jose in 2009. It is her debut movie in Malayalam. Then later she appeared in a couple of small budget films like Vikadakavi and Veerasekaran in 2010.
She came into limelight after her debut movie Mynaa in Tamil. She acted as a lead role in this film and gained huge fame from the audience. Amala Paul has won two awards for this movie as a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for ‘Best Actress’ and Vijay Award for ‘Best Debut Actress’
In 2011, she made her debut movie in Telugu as Geetanjali in Bejawada movie in a female lead role opposite to Naga Chaitanya. Later she has featured in some Telugu movies like Love Failure as Parvathi in 2012, Nayaak as Nandini and Iddarammayilatho as Komali Sankarabharanam in 2013, Janda Pai Kapiraju as Indumathi in2015, VIP 2 as Dr. Shalini Raghuvaran in 2017.
Her upcoming movies are Adho Andho Paravai Pola as Anitha in Tamil, Aadai as Kamini in Tamil and Aadujeevitham as Sainu in Malayalam.
